Eating Disorder Recovery Specialists (EDRS)

Overview

  • EDRS is a nationwide, in-home eating disorder recovery service providing support in your environment.

  • Co-founded in 2013 by Greta Gleissner and Ashley Anderson, psychotherapists based in New York, EDRS has clinicians in over 27 states.

  • This service bridges the gap between treatment and real-life by providing therapeutic care in schools, community-based settings, at home, or virtually.

  • Services include therapeutic meal support, clinical coaching, and in-home cooking for early recovery.

Clinical Coaching

  • Clinical coaching is a crucial part of EDRS.

  • EDRS clinicians conduct behavioral interventions, therapeutic exposures, skills building, and accountability.

  • Services are tailored to individual needs.

  • Issues addressed during coaching sessions may include:

    • Exercise
    • Body image
    • Grocery store exposure
    • Practicing skills learned during treatment in real-life settings to prevent relapse
    • Learning to tolerate emotions during triggering activities
    • Working on occupational or academic goals
  • The EDRS team comprises licensed mental health counselors, psychotherapists, licensed marriage and family therapists, registered dietitians, licensed counselor social workers, and other trained professionals.

How EDRS Works

  • EDRS offers a range of services and programs to meet individual needs.

  • Clients can sign up for a single service or work with a clinician on a comprehensive program.

  • EDRS takes a multi-pronged approach to recovery, focusing on:

    • Stabilization: Creating a foundation for recovery through nutritional stabilization, symptom management, weight restoration (if indicated), therapeutic exposures, and reducing isolation.
    • Maintaining Factors: Focusing on support and containment within the client's environment, addressing qualities, temperament, and internal and external stressors that fuel the eating disorder.
    • Integrating Recovery and Life: Helping clients maintain meal plan compliance, develop mindfulness and self-care practices, cope with everyday stressors, and stay engaged in recovery.
  • EDRS has Core Therapeutic Program Components, including:

    • Therapeutic meal support
    • Food-specific exposures
    • Case management
    • Therapeutic skills
    • Traits and temperament
    • Accountability check-ins
  • EDRS works in collaboration with a client's outpatient provider or treatment team.

  • The frequency of EDRS sessions depends on the client's needs and outpatient team's recommendations.

  • EDRS may also provide automated text messages, daily recovery tools emails, personal text messages, or quick phone check-ins for support.

Types of Therapeutic Recovery Support Programs

  • EDRS provides various therapeutic recovery support programs:
    • Adult and Adolescent Program: Five separate support programs tailored to varying needs and levels of recovery.
    • Campus Companion Program for College Students: Meal companions and recovery mentors provide support on or near campus, including therapeutic meal support, sober coaching, and life skills education.
    • In-Office Psychotherapy and Nutrition Therapy Services: Available in New York, EDRS offers in-office and sliding-fee-scale options. Virtual sessions are also available in select cities.
