Precautions

Dosage and Administration
- Start at a low dosage and gradually increase it over several weeks to avoid hypersensitivity reactions.
- Lamictal comes in various formulations: tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and chewable dispersible tablets.
- Disperse Lamictal CD tablets in liquid, mix thoroughly, and take the entire mixture.
- Swallow Lamictal tablets whole with or without food. Lamictal CD can be swallowed whole, chewed, or diluted in liquid.
- Place Lamictal ODT on your tongue until dissolved; they can be taken with or without food.
- Do not double up on doses if you miss one; simply take the next dose as scheduled.
Side Effects
Common:
- Abdominal pain
- Back pain
- Dry mouth
- Fatigue
- Insomnia
- Nausea
- Sleepiness
- Stuffy or runny nose
Severe:
- Acute multi-organ failure
- Blood disorders like anemia
- Cardiac rhythm and conduction abnormalities
- Fever or enlarged lymph nodes (signs of hypersensitivity)
- Serious rash
- Suicidal behavior and ideation
- Worsening of bipolar symptoms or new symptoms
Warnings and Interactions
- Black box warning: Lamictal can cause a serious, potentially life-threatening hypersensitivity rash.
- Increased risk of blood and organ disorders, suicidal thoughts/behavior, and other hypersensitivity reactions.
- Avoid operating machinery if you experience dizziness or drowsiness.
- Consult your doctor before stopping Lamictal; abrupt discontinuation may cause withdrawal symptoms.
