ADHD Symptoms in Girls vs. Boys:
Boys:
- Hyperactive/impulsive or combined type presentation
- Externalizing symptoms such as acting out and being aggressive
- Hyperactivity or impulsivity, such as constantly moving, interrupting others, and engaging in physical actions at inappropriate times.
Girls:
- Inattentive ADHD
- Inattention, such as not paying attention, not listening, being easily distracted, and losing focus
- Other symptoms, such as being withdrawn, disorganized, unmotivated, shy, and getting easily upset
Reasons Boys are More Likely to be Diagnosed with ADHD than Girls:
- Boys' symptoms are more disruptive.
- Girls' symptoms are often seen as personality characteristics.
